Hello TNS Families!
Welcome to the first of many, monthly newsletters that will highlight a safety and security topic that helps protect our campus and our most important stakeholders; our students!
For this first month I would like to take this time to introduce to you the many faces that make up both TNS Campus Police and our safety team. TNS Campus Police consists of two divisions: a sworn division and a non-sworn security division. Our sworn side consists of Mr. Thomas and Mr. Corey, a reserve police officer. Both Mr. Thomas and Mr. Corey are certified and sworn law enforcement officers with power of arrest on all campus property.
Our security division consists of our newly minted Campus Safety Officers, who have all received North Carolina based unarmed security officer training and continue to receive ongoing training in topics of first aid, de-escalation and traffic control. These staff members are Ms. Lori (Admin), Ms. Linda (MAP), Mr. Will (LE2) and Mr. Hayes (UE). Please feel free to approach these CSO’s in the event of an emergency or in the event you have any safety questions. These staff members serve as a “first line” for our safety program and assist greatly with matters that do not require a police officer. Additionally, they are able to “tag in” the need of a police officer when it arises.
Perhaps our biggest effort is both our morning and afternoon carpool presence, where the constant flow of vehicles and foot traffic can provide ample opportunities for safety issues. Please ensure that your speed is cautious and prudent for the parking lot and do not hesitate to bring observed concerns to our attention.
